My previous blog article talked about my Versa Wing, which was specifically built for FPV, well about three weeks ago my Teleporter V3 kit from Fatsharks arrived. I was extremely excited to put it on my Versa Wing and get a flight in, but wisely I held back and waited until I could get a friend to buddy lead me. This way I wouldn't have to worry about my gear and I could just enjoy the flight.
The first flight went swimmingly, nothing was broken and I even managed to navigate all right. Although rather comically I did walk in the absolutely wrong direction when going to pick the plane up from the landing strip, FPV can mess with your head when you get close to the ground. The second flight was just the same and I was delighted when I got to go home with everything intact, but also knowing that FPV was just as I had dreamed it to be... Let me tell you now that FPV is a magical experience that everyone in RC should try at least once, even if it is not with your own gear and plane.
Then, a few days later after my first FPV flight, I awoke to a beautiful day. I new that there was an opportunity to go down to my local racecourse that day to fly FPV, so I decided to give it a shot. To me now it seems like there is nothing to worry about, but back then I had never landed with the goggles on, or flown FPV without a buddy lead. If I got lost there was no one there to save me! However the Racecourse was a perfect place for it, as even if I did get lost, I could just land the plane and go and find it on the ground.
That day went perfectly and again I was delighted, it turns out the playing flight sims does you some good, as I found the FPV landing somewhat simpler than landing line of sight. Very much like a video game (Obviously I don't spend a lot of my time on those, right?)
So fast forward about five flights and I got to this stage!
All in all FPV is awesome, and you should try it!
